The Legend of Zelda -Ocarina of Time- Original Soundtrack Liner Notes

Koji Kondo - Composer

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an epic game on an unprecedented scale. Of course, it will take a long time to play through, so I thought about how to create music that players will not tire of. First, to provide distinction; the music for the field and village as well as the castle town is bright and melodious, while the music inside the dungeons is quiet and expansive. When the player is inside a grave or it is nighttime, there is no music. The music is naturally separated by environment.

The Hyrule Field theme, the center of the game's world, is the one piece of music in the game which is constructed to develop in different ways based on the actions of the player. If Link (the player) stops moving, the mood of the music will slacken as well, and if an enemy draws near, the music will become tense. So the composition of the track on this CD is merely one example of how things might go.

It is said that music is the art of time, but with game music, the amount of time spent depends on the person playing the game. I would like to make use of this special quality, and continue to develop it to ensure that game music can stand as an independent form of art.
