ESCHATOS VGM REMIX "a new comet"
This bonus CD, featuring two arrangements by Takahiro Eguchi, was given to those who purchased the soundtrack during the M3 event on May 1st, 2011, or who pre-ordered the soundtrack through the Sweep Record store for the official release date of May 9th, 2011. How does Eguchi handle Yasui's originals?
Takahiro Eguchi has definitely become one of my favorite SuperSweep arrangers in the past year, thanks to his contributions to sound sepher's Touhou arrange albums, so I never know what to expect from him, given his diverse style of arrangements. For this bonus CD, he chose to remix the main theme/first stage theme, "Silver Lining," and the fourth stage theme, "Stellar Light."
The first remix, "Silver Lining -Spin Phenix-," updates the soundscape to a more futuristic one, providing some wonderful synth soundscapes, particularly in the harmonies, while keeping a semi-retro sound to the melody. Combined with some nice dance beats, it makes for a very fun remix.
The second remix on the bonus CD is definitely the superior one. "Stellar Light -The Boy Generation-," makes to combine some amazing soundscapes, such as relaxing acoustic guitar, chiptune melodies, and some wonderful trance elements.
Although a short bonus, the two remixes by Takahiro Eguchi bring a modern touch to Yasui's retro themes; however, at the same time, he manages to keep the retro feeling heard in the melody lines. If you are able to order from the SuperSweep store and there are copies left, you might just be able to pick this up yourself. If not, it's probably not worth your time to track this disc out by a second hand seller, but the music heard is definitely really good.
