Worms: Open Warfare 2

There are no sacrifices, no compromises, and no settling for second best here. Two Tribes has gone above and beyond the call of duty and have created an instant classic. This is truly the best Worms game ever made.

The bottom line is that Worms has always been a fantastic game so it all comes down to how complete a given installment is, and Worms Open Warfare 2 is easily the defining title in the series. [Oct 2007, p.87]

OW2 still looks and sounds great though, and offers more content than any Worms before it. It might have scored even higher if it had been $10 cheaper (it would have truly been a must-buy for all DS owners at $20), but it's still an excellent value and a wonderful addition to the portable action-strategy lineup.

Game Almighty

Open Warfare 2 combines the franchise's polished gameplay with several new modes and a robust online component to create the best Worms title in many years.

Overall, Open Warfare 2 is a far superior product to the original Open Warfare game on the DS.

Cheat Code Central

This is truly the Worms game that many fans have been waiting years for. It is easily as good as the earlier Worms titles and since it is portable, it can quench your Worms addiction no matter where you may be.

Worth Playing

A terrific game. The gameplay is simple, fun and forever addictive, and it's coupled with chunky, colorful graphics and a multiplayer system which has served as the de facto model for many other titles.

A massive upgrade to the original game, so much so that it really should have been its own brand instead of "Number Two" of the 2005 release.

Official Nintendo Magazine UK

It's the same old Worms at the core, but it's the franchise at its best. [Sept 2007, p.72]

Nintendo Gamer

It's simple, it's retro, and it's extremely hard to put down once you get started. And excellent package on DS. [Nov 2007, p.58]

Much like almost every iteration of the series, Worms: Open Warfare 2 does not seek to completely revolutionize the series, but merely adds another layer of weapons, modes, and customizations.

Game Revolution

What you have here is a solid game and an excellent purchase for anyone owning a portable system.

With far too much new content to list here, it offers a brilliantly rejuvenated experience to die-hard fans and a reason for the wandering flock to return. [Oct 2007, p.118]

THQ, Team 17 and Two Tribes have not only turned out the best Worms game of all time, but a title that stands on its own as a truly excellent piece of DS software.

Tightly woven gameplay makes this a great addition to the series. If only more touch screen could have been implemented.

Game Informer

The Campaign mode offers a little variety with slightly varied missions and even some boss battles, but if you've never liked Worms' brand of zany, artillery-heavy 2D action, well, not much has changed.

Nintendo Power

Despite some frustratingly expert-level AI in the compute opponents, Open Warfare 2 is one you don't want squirming away from you. [Nov 2007, p.104]

Digital Entertainment News

This is a great game for DS Wi-Fi, and for once it is one that isn't made by Nintendo themselves. There is may not be much more to this game, but for fans that should be more than enough.

If you're hoping for a core multiplayer experience, however, you'll likely find Nintendo's Wi-Fi network too frustrating to deal with.

Pocket Gamer UK

A combination of cheeky grins and exploding donkeys makes Worms: Open Warfare 2 a simple and enjoyable slice of handheld action.

Though the additions and adjustments to the standard Worms experience aren't game changing, the playful violence and light strategy still hold up.

If you're a veteran of the series and you want something new, there are a few new options and some sprucing up compared to past games, but this isn't the end-all-be-all for the franchise, and the customization really isn't implemented as well as it could be.

While the graphics are certainly less polished than what you'd find in the PSP version, they still retain the typical Worms feel.

Were THQ holding a bazooka next to your head demanding that you play Worms: Open Warfare 2 or they just might pull the trigger, then it might be worth turning on.

Games Master UK

A solid Worms game but one that's not particularly well tailored to the DS. [Oct 2007, p.84]
