Söldner-X 2: Final Prototype

I find that Soldner X2 to be one of my favorite horizontal shooters ever made. This just might give Gradius V (my favorite horizontal shooter) a run for its money, well worth the price of admission.

Soldner: X2 Final Prototype while a short game like most of this genre, is none the less a spectacular romp that will have players jumping on for a quick blast fest, or seeing just how skilled they are and racking up the points and special upgrades in the levels.

Gamers' Temple

Soldner-X 2 isn't a perfect game, but it can be a lot of fun and even a stepping stone for those looking to hop into the genre.

PlayStation LifeStyle

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is an absolute blast and an experience that cannot be missed by arcade and action fans alike.

At the end of the day a 2D shooter is all about the gameplay and Soldner-X 2 nails that department.

A dazzling 2D shooter with several tricks up its sleeve. There is more meat here than in most arcade shooters, with a health system that makes for longer play sessions and plenty to do beyond the regular story mode.

Console Monster

Solder-X 2: Final Prototype is a very novice friendly entry into the shooter genre, yet at the same time it is able to cater to the veterans of this type of game.

Sure, it's a little bit easy / forgiving but there's a lot of challenge in the stuff you unlock once you "finish" it. This is every bit worthy of a place in any discerning Shmup gamer's collection.

PSX Extreme

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is a beautifully composed and ceaselessly entertaining shooter, one with an old-school feel combined with modern flash.

Even if your shoot-'em-up experience is limited to Contra or Metal Slug, I still highly recommend giving this game a shot (again, gratuitous pun intended). Let's hope that SideQuest Studios's Final Prototype isn't actually… well… final.

Playstation Official Magazine UK

An insane intergalactic treat. [Sept 2010, p.119]

There are quite a few single-stick shooters on the PSN store now. In my opinion, this is the best of the bunch. It has been well-designed, balanced and tuned to perfection, and is a big improvement on the original.

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is a true arcade experience, gussied up and given an extra dose of approachability for the current generation of gamers.

Extreme Gamer

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is arguably more fun than the average sidescrolling shooter, but this is still a niche genre.

SoldnerX-2 is one of the best scrolling shooter created in this generation. It may be, for hardcore gamers who comes from 80's, too easy, but it's thrilling and compelling.

If you are looking for a game that will give you hours of fun and thousands of enemies to shoot, then Sцldner-X 2 just might be the thing you want!

Gamer Limit

Soldner X2: Final Prototype offers the pinnacle of it's genre. Ultimately accessible & joyfully playable, this offers a fantastic starting point for gamers new to schmups as well as a warm fuzzy feeling for the long time player. A frenetic explosion of colour and liquid smooth motion make this one of the best shooters I have ever played.

Sцldner-X 2: Final Prototype is certainly an improvement on the original thanks to the focus on allowing new players the opportunity to still have a fun experience. At the same time, the inclusion of challenges and putting an emphasis on collection in order to experience the complete single player campaign will keep the hardcore occupied for a while.

Fun, but ultimately unrewarding, Soldner-X 2 brings a gorgeous looking side-scrolling shooter to the PSN, but they forgot to bring the innovation along with it.

The vibrant graphics take full advantage of the PlayStation 3's power, and while it might not be aimed at the right demographic, there's still a good deal of fun to be had.

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is a rather classic shooter, which bases its appeal on those elements that fans of the genre know better: upgradeable weapons, huge bosses, nice levels and a large number of enemies who do nothing but shoot at us. Though its solid gameplay, however, Final Prototype lacks of original ideas and it's way too short.

In an age when the surviving champions of the genre seem intent on sticking to the template of manic vertical scrollers with ludicrously baroque game design, Soldner-X 2 offers a fairly satisfying alternative: a horizontal scroller with a classic flavour that doesn't feel out of date. [Aug 2010, p.115]

Eurogamer Italy

Soldner-X 2: Final Prototype is certainly a well-packed shooter. The mix of old-school gameplay and terrific HD graphics are again a good choice. Easier than its prequel (and that's ok), it seriously lacks in longevity.

Play UK

It's certainly good fun while it lasts. [Issue#195, p.103]

Gaming Age

As far as shooters are concerned, Sцldner-X 2: Final Prototype is very pick-up-and-play friendly.

Like Craig David covering Marvin Gaye, Sцldner X-2 makes you pine for the real deal.
