echoshift

WonderwallWeb

For those who, like me, enjoyed the first game in the Echo series, you will no doubt jump at the chance to continue in the sequel to these strange puzzling adventures and it will be a welcome return.

GameFocus

If you enjoyed echochrome, picking up echoshift is a no brainer. At the same time, if you've been craving a puzzle game that can be enjoyed in short bursts, works your brain muscles and still offers plenty of value, once again, you cannot go wrong here.

IGN

The sense of reward and increasing levels of temporal thinking needed to plow through Echoshift make it instantly more engaging than Echochrome.

PSM3 Magazine UK

The clean, somewhat clinical presentation hides some seriously hellish later stages, so some patience is required to beat every level but for puzzle fans, this is definitely a logical purchase. [May 2010, p.96]

GamingXP

You're a fan of logic, trial and error? If yes, you should consider taking a look at echoshift. It's great to play, the first 20 missions are for warming up – and further levels are next to hell's kitchen, so don't expect it to stay casual! Travel through time, but look out for the origami.
82

Pocket Gamer UK

Whilst not quite as perfectly formed as its prequel, echoshift is still great fun, and offers a relaxing, slow-paced experience that is perfect for Sunday morning brain training.

Gamer.nl

The sober exterior of Echoshift is no indication of the complexity of the challenges it harbours. As the game progresses the challenges get tougher, but thanks to a steady increasing learning curve no challenge will ever seem too overwhelming. Manipulating time has been done much prettier by others, but difficulty wise it can easily keep up with the best.

TheSixthAxis

Please bear in mind when considering this game that Echoshift is hard, and it is meant to be hard. If you have a rough time with earlier levels on the likes of Cuboid and Critter Crunch, this may not be for you; for everyone else who are fans of brain bending puzzle games, if you have the patience and stamina, this is an easy recommendation.
80

GameCritics

Always challenging but never impossible, Echoshift goes out of its way to cater to the player in ways that very few titles do, making it an easy game to love
80

Vandal Online

Charming, original and hugely addictive, it is a very interesting proposal for those who look for a challenge they can carry everywhere.
80

Multiplayer.it

Echoshift is obviously a spiritual sequel to Echochrome not just by a technical point of view but especially on the concept field: it's a neat puzzle-game which challenges the player's timing, cunning and memory. Echoshift tries to be accessible to everyone: advanced stages are very complicated but never frustrating, while the combination of the concept with the how-to-do is extremely balanced.
80

PSFocus

Echoshift is the spiritual follow up of echochrome with more color in it. If you liked echochrome you will like this as well. It's got more of the same gameplay like before and we can be pretty short about the game: it's a nice one.

3DJuegos

Echoshift is a funny game, specially if you're a fan of logic, trial and error.
78

AceGamez

The art style and overall production of the game reeks of class, even if the mechanics aren't as responsive and enjoyable as they were in echochrome.
77

SpazioGames

Even without the magic touch of Echochrome, Echoshift still delivers a nice puzzle experience, surely one of the best available for Playstation Portable. It would have been even better with a level editor for a longer lasting appeal.
75

Play UK

A truly mind-mangling challenge. [Issue#191, p.82]
73

Everyeye.it

Echoshift leaves behind the conceptual moderation of EchoChrome and delivers a nice puzzling experience.
73

Edge Magazine

When you do surrender to Echoshift's world of relaxation, time management, and jarring cruelty, however, time - like your many lives - files by. [May 2010, p.104]
70

Eurogamer

If you can stand a bit of trial-and-error though, and feel like taking your brain on a bracing walk once in a while, echoshift is a very well presented, well thought out and enjoyable piece of mental exercise.
70

Playstation Official Magazine UK

It just doesn't feel quite as fun or innovative as the original. [May 2010, p.103]
70

Eurogamer Portugal

Basically, the game concept is interesting, but only the most dedicated will have the patience to complete the game.
70

Metro GameCentral

An improvement on the earlier echochrome and another abstract but engaging puzzler for the PSP.
70

Eurogamer Spain

A must have for people who love puzzles, but the rest won't be playing it for more than two or three hours.
70

Gamereactor Sweden

Not as revolutionary as Echochrome but a nice series of brain excersises that should last a long time.
70

9Lives

Echoshift is a puzzler of the highest level. If you get frustrated easily, don't come anywhere near this game. If you love to torment your own brain, then this game will give you plenty of levels that won't bore you anytime soon. Too bad that the creators didn't add a level creator. That would've lengthen the game considerably.
70

PALGN

Echoshift was designed to challenge the most devout puzzle fans, a respectable move but one that ultimately alienates fans of the original.
65

Boomtown

It's fun while it lasts and definitely an above average puzzler and highly recommended for puzzle addicts but it's difficult to get too enthused about.
60

LEVEL (Czech Republic)

Better then its black & white predecessor – this time a wired mannequin solves time related puzzles. Someone should think of an exaggerated difficulty. [Issue#189]
60

Gameplayer Sweden

EchoShift provides a puzzling twist to its predecessors problem solving. Using time-shifted co-op with oneself makes for exciting problem solving, but also makes brains hurt. The cooled presentation unfortunately fails to provide comfort for broken spirits. Well thought out puzzles gives EchoShift long legs but gaming sessions soon runs out of steam.
